Just a few days after the US gave a travel advisory warning their citizens from travelling to Mombasa over an impending bomb attack, three Kenyans were killed and many others seriously injured following a blast in a Mshomoroni bar outside Mombasa.
Following the travel advisory, the Kenyan government as well as the business people in Mombasa who depend on tourism complained of economic sabotage by the US. Their argument was that the advisory was totally uncalled for and greatly affected Kenya's economy.
Whether the responsibility of any government is to citizens of other countries or their economy and not their own is for me to tell. The Kenyan security agencies need to do more to inspire confidence that the situation is under control. While it is not unsafe to be in Mombasa, the presence of a travel advisory warning people to stay away from the place is enough reason to be cautious.
