KWS Should Do More to Contain Human-Wildlife Conflicts
The recent killing of six lions from the Nairobi National Park by residents of Kitengela leaves much to be desired about the management of such conflicts. The lions had moved out of the park and had killed and harmed a number of goats and sheep belonging to the Maasai.

Business Travelers Targeted by New Hotels
Nairobi is expected to have eight new hotels by 2014 which will target business travelers who have since increased given that the city has become a major business hub in the region.
The new hotels will have such facilities as high-speed internet and conference rooms which are of great importance to business travelers.
Hotel owners have ventured into this line of business to curve a bigger share for themselves in the market due stiff competition.
The demand for such facilities has also increased and marketers are trying to meet the diverse needs of business travelers.

Kenya Airways to Fly to Ougadougou, Burkina Faso
Kenya Airways is set to start flights to Ougadougou, Burkina Faso from Monday 15th July, 2011 thereby increasing its flight routes to 55.
A a Boeing 737 – 800 will ply the route twice weekly on Monday and Friday via Canotou, Benin's capital.
According to a press release on Kenya Airways website, the airline Chief Executive Officer Dr Titus Naikuni mentioned that their plan was to ensure that the airline flies to all capital cities in Africa.
"Ougadougou is the 2nd of the routes that we have opened this year after Ndjamena in Chad, with plans at various stages for a further 6 destinations in the course of this financial year.” Said Dr Naikuni.
This is good news for Kenya as it opens up its tourism sector to Benin's visitors. It will be up to Kenyans to market their country to the visitors.

Lake Bogoria, Lake Nakuru and Lake Elementaita inscribed on UNESCO's Heritage List
Lake Nakuru, Lake and Lake Elementaita have been inscribed on the United Nation's Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation's (UNESCO) World Heritage List. This is great news for the Kenyan tourism Industry which according to the Minister for Tourism Hon. Najib Balala experienced a 15% increase in tourist arrivals in the first quarter of 2011.
The three interlinked relatively shallow lakes in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya join other six new inscriptions on the World Heritage List. This was arrived at during the 35th session meeting of the World Heritage Committee held from 19-24 June, 2011 at UNSCO's Headquarters in Paris, France.
The three lakes form what is known as the Kenya Lake System in the Rift Valley is home to 13 endangered bird species and hosts one of the highest number of bird species in the world. The area is well known for its flamingos and white pelicans
The Kenya Lake System also has a number of mammal species including lions, black rhinos, cheetahs, greater kudu, wild dogs and Rothschild giraffes.
